(1858-1955)

Katharine Drexel and her two sisters inherited $14 million from her father, and set about using it to help Native Americans and other minorities. At the urging of Pope Leo XIII, she started a new missionary order to help them. Katharine and her friends founded dozens of schools on Indian reservations, as well as Xavier University, the first Catholic college for African Americans.
