March 23

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00am on of March, repeating indefinitely

(1538-1606)

Turibius was a brilliant lawyer and a holy and just man who was made bishop of Peru against his will. When he arrived there from Spain, he found both the Spanish rulers persecuting the native peoples, and the priests either not doing anything about it or participating in the injustice. He traveled across the country by foot, visiting the people and setting things right. He said, “Time is not our own, and we must give a strict account of it.”
